KŌWHAI
In stock
KŌWHAI - we're paying homage to our beautiful bright yellow native flower - Kōwhai is the Māori word for yellow and when they fall they leave a carpet of gold (our driveway gets covered in these lovely flowers)!
This piece holds a special place in our hearts. I remember every year my father would bring a sprig of the first kōwhai blooms home to mark the start of spring. Take a look at the video - it shows the carving and a short clip of a Kōwhai tree in full bloom - the yellow is the flowers and the birds are our native Tui.
A beautiful, stylised pendant for those who love flowers. Hand carved from mammoth tusk, these wonderful pendants evoke the freedom of nature.
We had our mammoth material carbon dated to get an accurate measure of its age. The testing was done for us by GNS Science, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute and New Zealand's leading provider of Earth, geoscience and isotope research - so their assessment of this material is as accurate as is possible using radiocarbon dating technology.
The mammoth tusk we have used has a beautiful distinctive grain. We have a variety which vary in colour so please use the drop-down menu to make your selection using the cord colour.
We provide these with hand-plaited Cords which are adjustable so that you can wear this piece where it suits you best.
Take a look at the video - it shows the movement in this piece and the finely carved detail.
