A medium sized whalebone toki, carved in New Zealand. STRENGTH WITHIN is a little beauty! The grain is everything that we love about whalebone. The front face is tight enough to put a soft shine on the bone, the back is grainy and full of character. This is a piece to wear all day, everyday!
We have plaited a Grey/Ice White cord and bound the head of the toki with our Pale Honey cord - colours that add to the beauty of this pendant.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
