THE PAUSE is a captivating creation by Swiss jeweller Michel Girardin. The piece features a piece of New Zealand pāua shell hovering above a round Tahitian black pearl, each individually cased in sterling silver. The pāua's vibrant, shifting blues and greens play against the pearl's deep, lustrous darkness - a pairing that looks unexpected but perfectly balanced.

The overall form resembles an exclamation mark: a bold, organic shape that is interesting and expressive. The pāua sits above the pearl with a slight tilt to one side, creating a sense of movement and lightness. It is a delightful and unusual composition!

Michel's skill comes from a deep-rooted heritage. He comes from a Swiss family of jewellers and trained formally at La Chaux-de-Fonds Art School. That background is visible in every part of this piece. The finishing is flawless—front and back, every angle is immaculate.
