A beautiful notched toki carved from from Black Jade. This is a lovely piece, carved with precision and buffed to a low sheen - a bold and beautiful necklace.
We have carved this from Australian Black Jade - a deep black colour with some pale striations in some of the pieces. These, where they occur, are natural structures that form with the stone where minerals are wrapped into the jade during its formation.
We have bound DELIVERANCE with a Black Cord and a beautiful Blue Moon Binding - a fantastic contrast to the deep black of the jade.
The notching is a very traditional design and is typically seen carved in whalebone. The notches are a symbol of 'many hands' and they signify providing for many - a lovely piece.
This shape is derived from a chisel tool used by the Māori people of Aotearoa (New Zealand) to carve their great canoes and the detailing on their meeting houses. It was an essential tool in their daily lives, and a good quality jade adze was a prized possession.
DELIVERANCE is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch.
Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
