TANGIWAI STRENGTH – A Substantial Toki Pendant by Kerry Thompson
This exceptional toki delivers the pinnacle of contemporary pounamu carving - meticulously designed and carved with precision by Kerry Thompson. This piece embodies both technical excellence and artistic vision.
The stone selected is of the highest quality: a dense, deep green tangiwai pounamu with naturally occurring silver flecks scattered through the stone. The silver flecks are iron minerals included when the stone formed. These natural variations lend the piece a sense of depth and character.
A brief video presentation captures the subtle interplay of light and form - viewing it is recommended to fully appreciate the work’s refinement.
A significant carving... a lasting legacy in stone.
Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, 'tears of sorrow'. It is the perfect stone for this marvellous pendant.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful ....and this is a good one!
Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage to assist through life's challenges.
We provide TANGIWAI STRENGTH on an adjustable black cord.
We include our 'Kia Ora' card explaining the meaning behind the Toki design.
