STAY THE COURSE is a wonderful, large Koru carved from New Zealand Pounamu by Kerry Thompson.
Features to note:
- The Stone - Kerry has used a beautiful piece of Marsden Jade for this carving. It is a soft green with speckles of darker green scattered throughout. It has carved beautifully!
- The Finish - a mix of high polish and matte accentuates the carved design. Depending on how light strikes the carving, various features are highlighted offering a changing design focus. The front and back also view quite differently.
- The Design - this is a strong and bold koru, a large piece carved using the natural stone to bring it to life. Viewed from the front, the leading edge features a traditionally-inspired face in profile - serene and beautiful. Viewed from the back - you see just the subtlest hint of a nose and lips.
This is an intricate work of art - a testament to Kerry's artistic vision, and his ability to translate this to jade, an unforgiving medium.
STAY THE COURSE is provided with an adjustable Kalahari Tan cord. If you would like a different coloured cord - please let us know in the comments section at checkout.
The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.
