We source the finest black jade from Australia and use it to carve a range of custom pieces. This beautifully bound Toki is carved from this jade. It is a spectacular, deep black with a fern carved in relief into the heart of this epic design... introducing THE BLACK FERN!

If you want to carry the The Black Fern above your heart this is the pendant for you!

This toki is very slender, and buffed to a dull sheen - eye-catching and fabulous to wear. This is a unisex piece. We have these bound in two colours - BLACK and COSMOS GREY.

Please note that the black jade used is carved from raw stone, so each piece is unique. Apart from polishing the stone is untreated - completely natural - so the pieces vary, some having pale fractures and markings. These are not faults, they are naturally occurring inclusions that were created when the jade formed and we think add character to these lovely pieces.

You can best see the pendant's form and striking colour on the brief video we have taken showing the toki rotating.

As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Maori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.

Maori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
