GODWIT - one of the world's greatest travellers...
This is a collection of small, New Zealand pounamu toki, hand carved and bound by us. These are fabulous little pendants if you would like to carry a small piece of New Zealand with you on your adventures.
We've named these after the GODWIT, that wonderful little bird that makes the 11,000km trip between Alaska and New Zealand every year - you won't find a more experienced travelling companion than that!
As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Maori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.
Maori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
We hand-plait the cords and lash the top of these toki in a traditional pattern.
