LAPUA - Looking for something different? This one's for you!
A medium sized Toki that displays a beautiful array of earthy greens and darker, braided mineral inclusions along the length of the piece. Slip LAPUA over your head and you'll be donning a stunning piece of wearable art.
LAPUA is carved from a lovely piece of local New Zealand Jade by John Elson. John's work reflects his fascination for working with stone and for hunting, passion that is reflected in his work. His background in engineering shines through in the outstanding quality of the craftsmanship evident in this toki.
John is a keen hunter and introduced the top of a shell case into the front of the toki, a clever and eye-catching touch here!
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
LAPUA will be packaged in a woven kete pouch for shipping.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
