POISE - a balanced pendant. Fashionable, carved art made to wear! This is a standout piece - two Manaia heads joined with a complex body. The representation of two stories coming together, different viewpoints seeking a common solution.
POISE is carved from bone and stained with an onion based dye that Yuri makes to colour some of his carvings. In this piece, the dye is a strong gingernut brown creating a visually powerful pendant. Over time, the carving wears and adapts to its environment. It will develop a patina that will be shaped by how it's worn - in this sense the carving takes up a little of its owners spirit.
POISE is signed by the artist.
The Carving: the eyes are made from local cold water Pāua shell - a beautiful fluorescent blue/green colour. The body is carved from natural bone. There is a delicacy to this piece which is very attractive, it looks very elegant when worn.

Māori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.
