A New Zealand Jade Manaia with whale tail, hand carved by Ross Crump. This is an awesome smaller pendant! The top is a pale green colour jade and then it descends into a glorious deeper green.
MOANA - this is a fantastic pendant. If you love the symbolism of the manaia, but prefer something subtle but very interesting, take a look at this piece. It is a fantastic little pendant - it looks beautiful worn on a short cord so that it is visible nestled in the hollow of your throat.
We have bound this piece with a hand-plaited Black cord and a Pohutukawa Red popper.
This piece can be worn reversed - each side is quite distinct and shows the wonderful carving and design.
The symbolism of this piece....
The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.
The WHALE has quite some significance in Polynesian cultures. Here in new Zealand they are believed to be descendants of Tangaroa - the God of the Oceans. They are regarded as sacred and supernatural beings and are believed to provide guidance and protection.
We will also include our 'Kia Ora' card, explaining the meaning behind the Manaia design.
