UNIQUE - ORIGINAL - HANDMADE

Have you ever heard the roar of an excited stag, or buck, deep in the bush? Had them emerge covered in mud with foliage caught in their antlers, just spoiling for a fight? There's nothing like it to get your heart pumping and make the hair on the back of your neck head skyward.

If this strikes a chord with you, take a look at our selection of pendants made from the antler of these mighty animals.

All pendants in this collection are hand carved from deer antler and boar tusk by New Zealand artists. The antler used comes predominantly from our local Red deer and Wapiti (Elk). The antler falls naturally from the animal after the mating season - locally called the roar - and re-grows each year through Spring and Summer.

Antlers develop and grow through 5 broad phases…

  • initiation - development of soft buds on the head
  • rapid growth (velvet phase) - the antlers grow rapidly and are covered in a soft velvety layer of fine hair, quite beautiful!
  • mineralisation - they begin to solidify and harden
  • velvet shedding - getting ready to mate, the stags rub off the velvet and hone their tines ready to compete with other stags. I've watched these battles many times and it's spectacular! Testosterone levels are at their highest.
  • antler casting

Because of the nature of the materials used, each pendant is unique and original.

We provide more detailed information about each carving's meaning, size and anything special or unique on their product pages, so take some time to scroll through and explore.
