Spectacular Jade Pendants

Check out this selection of carved pendants we've just loaded in our store.

We are delighted to offer pendants made with some of the most spectacular and interesting jade that we have seen for quite some time.

In putting this selection together we focussed on the interaction between design and material - contemporary and meaningful shape and top quality New Zealand jade and pounamu.

The pendants in this selection are carved from a variety of stone types including:

• Totoweka Jade - renowned for red streaks and spots. This jade is though to be named after the blood of the Weka - toto (blood), weka (native New Zealand bush hen). Here's a beautiful example
• Tangiwai Pounamu - this is a bowenite stone, much loved for its exceptional translucence. This stone is found in a couple of places in Fiordland in South Westland and is becoming quite rare. Check it out here
• Serpentinite Pounamu - a silicate stone with a beautiful waxy feel when polished. 
• Kahurangi Jade - the name derives from the clear colour of the sky which is reflected in the highly translucent nature of this jade. The beautiful apple green colouring of some kahurangi is highly prized for making pendants.
• Inanga Jade - colour ranges from a whitish grey through pearly green. It is thought to be named after the young New Zealand native minnow, called inanga by Māori, which is a pearly white colour. This jade is highly prized.
• Arahura/ Marsden Flower Jade - gorgeous flower jade from the Marsden region just outside Greymouth on New Zealand's West Coast. This stone has wonderful coloured inclusions which make it valued for decorative jewellery.
• Pipiwharauroa Jade - this stone has beautiful shimmering highlights which reflect the light beautifully and change as the carving moves. Gorgeous material which when well carved produces spectacular carved pendants.
• Kawakawa Jade - beautiful dark green jade often with dark spots scattered throughout the stone. Thought to be named after the dark coloured leaves of the native Kawakawa tree.

All pieces are original and 'one-off'.
