Early life in the Islands of the South Pacific was challenging and sometimes dangerous. Survival required an ability to confront and master the challenges the environment presented - travelling on the seas, through the bush and over mountains required courage, tenacity and imagination. To prevail, people sought guidance and protection in the experiences of their forbears, handed down through stories and represented in carvings and icons.
This collection embodies the qualities of protection, courage, leadership and independence.
These carvings are treasured by sailors, mountaineers, surfers, divers and adventurers.
