JEN HUNG

Recently we undertook a little road trip around the South Island to meet with existing, and discover new jade artists.

We were fortunate to discover Jen Hung! Jen is a wonderfully creative and highly skilled jade artist who uses jade as a medium to create some fascinating pendants. We were fortunate to be able to secure a handful of pieces from Jen's personal collection - she parted with these reluctantly!

We particularly love the way Jens' Chinese heritage is reflected in her artwork. Wonderful to see jade worked in a way that acknowledges the histories of two jade loving nations!

Here's how Jen describes her path to jade:

I am Taiwanese and came to NZ 1998. In 2005 I graduated from Tai Poutini Polytechs 'Jade & Hard Stones course' which lead my husband & I to start our "Stone Carving Studio." Apart from Maori traditional designs, I am influenced by my Chinese background & culture as well as nature form. All work is lovingly plaited by myself as I just love the colours and designs that can be created. It is a great honour to have you purchase the work I have created. Thank you!

We're  in love with Jen's work!! Her glorious cords, beautifully plaited and designed to complement the piece they grace. They are perfect for every piece.
