This toki, or adze, pendant is carved from New Zealand Jade. The beautiful colour is a result of heating the jade - it changes from the characteristic jade green to this glorious orange / red.
Early coal miners discovered this when using jade boulders from their tailings to build fireplaces - the heat from the fires changed the stone's colour to a coalescence of orange and red hues. You can best see these in the video.
We have ONE ONLY and will remove this from the site when sold.
The toki is a tribal symbol representing strength. It is designed to honour the adze which was used to build, fight, defend and played a important role in the daily survival of ancient tribes.
We deliver this pendant on a hand plaited charcoal grey adjustable cord with a burgundy binding. We will also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
