MERE - a sleek, stunning, semi-translucent New Zealand Jade Mere sculpture.

The stone is a beautiful green Inanga jade, finished with a soft polish.

MERE is carved from a unique piece of stone. It is a lovely pale green Inanga stone, with dark inclusions throughout. This is a medium-sized piece and an exceptional representation of this very traditional weapon.

The stand is a piece of recycled New Zealand Totara wood with a brass frame made to cradle the MERE.

A beautiful and original sculptural piece - it can be easily removed from the stand, held and handled. We recommend that you do this regularly!

The Mere is a type of short, broad-bladed weapon in the shape of an enlarged tear drop. These were traditional weapons used for hand to hand fighting - usually made from Whalebone and wood. Jade mere were often carried by Māori Chiefs as a symbol of their leadership and their standing in their iwi. Today you will often see mere carried by leaders in formal ceremonial occasions.
