A beautiful Brian Hill toki, bound by his wife Hene. The combination of their work produces some of the best quality jade pendants we have seen.
Brian has used a super dark green piece of pounamu for the OPTIMIST. It is perfectly dressed in a dark brown binding which in itself is a work of art. The jade has been polished to a burnished matte finish which is close to the traditional look and feel of hand-worked jade.
Check out the video to appreciate the quality of the craftsmanship. Brian's carving is flawless - it takes real skill to work jade to this standard. This is something that you will find in all of his work.
The toki or adze was an important tool for the polynesian people, used to build meeting houses and shape their sea-going canoes. It has been traditionally worn to give strength and courage to the wearer.
This toki will make a lifelong companion.
