SILENT HUNTER is a medium sized, slender Matau carved for us by Graeme Wylie. This is a very unique piece - carved from New Zealand Tangiwai, a rare stone from New Zealand's South Westland. This stone is renowned for its glass-like qualities. Fine pieces are virtually translucent although in this case the thickness and colour produce a gorgeous deep green/black appearance.

We have bound this piece with a traditional lashing on the shaft - decorative and tough.

A visually strong pendant, beautifully carved with a traditional binding this piece looks like it means business. Take a moment to view the video to appreciate the material used and the beautifully clean lines of this piece.  This will make a fabulous pendant for someone who loves the ocean.

The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community. It is worn for protection when travelling - especially over water.
