The traditional matau or hook shape has a long history in Polynesia -  they were used as a practical tool for fishing and were often decorated as a sign of respect for the creatures of the sea. The owner of a good hook was able to provide for the family and village - this brought respect and prosperity.

These are bound with an adjustable, black cord. On one of these pieces we have slightly stained the etching to highlight it. If this is the piece you'd like please make a note in the comments field at checkout.

This pendant is a contemporary design - graceful, beautifully detailed and hand carved.
