SOULFUL EMBRACE - a beautiful contemporary koru. Made from Tangiwai Pounamu this is a beautiful and very meaningful piece of jewellery.
This piece is designed to signify Family - or Whānau. The two koru represent the changes and growth that every family undergoes. They represent the harmony that is maintained during periods of change. Koru are nurturing symbols, symbols that give strength and comfort.
The cord is a fixed length - around 56cm (22 inches) in diameter. It is finished with a loop and a handmade jade toggle.
This is a beautifully carved piece carved in a fascinating piece of New Zealand Tangiwai, a rare and interesting stone. Tangiwai is scarcer than jade, found in Anita Bay - one small area in Piopiotahi, The Milford Sounds. If you've ever travelled down to the South Western corner of New Zealand, that is home to this marvellous stone, you'll appreciate the beauty of this region - and this is a little piece of that magic!
Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, 'tears of sorrow'. It is the perfect stone for this marvellous pendant.
SOULFUL EMBRACE was carved for us by Ana Krakosky, you can view more pieces from Ana in her collection HERE.
