COAST - Where land and sea meet. One of our favourite places - where all your senses are rewarded. This little toki is a real beauty - colourful, beautifully crafted, and unique.
We've hand plaited a Paradise Blue and Manuka Green cord with Paradise Blue Floret Popper. The cord is designed to highlight the stunning minty green and blue colours in this piece. The cord hole and groove show the level of craftsmanship achieved in carving this toki - it's a wonderful example of the carver's skill.
We'll let the photos, and the video, speak for this gorgeous pendant. Have a look at the video in particular - it shows the piece rotating, slowly - the best way to appreciate the little nuances in the carving.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
