EARTH'S ABUNDANCE - a medium sized hook pendant, hand carved from a very distinctive, colourful piece of New Zealand jade.

This matau pendant is carved from a rich, dark green pounamu. The carver has employed a distinctive technique, allowing the stone's original, paler green rind to form the outer curve of the hook. This preserves a tangible piece of the stone's natural state, creating a striking visual and textural contrast with the smoothly polished surfaces and emphasising the piece's organic origins.

The matau, or hook pendant is revered throughout the South Pacific as a symbol for life, well-being and prosperity. Its significance arises from the key role that fishing has played in sustaining island families and communities. The owner of a good hook was respected and held a place of authority in the community.

EARTH'S ABUNDANCE is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch and provided with an adjustable Grass Green/Manuka Green cord.
