This manaia is carved from a dark green piece of New Zealand jade, locally called pounamu or greenstone.

Ross Crump carved TITITEA for us, and he has done a phenomenal job with this one! The finish is a burnished matte which really lends it an aura of mystery. This is so reflective of the land that it comes from - we love this pendant!

This is a wonderful piece of jade - perfect for this design, it is dark and soulful. If you hold it up to the light you can see small dark inflections dispersed throughout the stone - a wonderful traditional pendant.

Ross has incorporated a koru spiral in the tail of this carving giving it an interesting symbology:

The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.

The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’.  The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.

We will ship this stunning Manaia to you with DHL Express Courier on a hand plaited, adjustable cord. We will also include our 'Kia Ora' card, explaining the meaning behind the Manaia and Koru design.
