GENTLE GIANT - hand carved, whalebone Toki.
Carved from the rib of a whale that beached on the northern shores in New Zealand. A beautifully grained and coloured piece - it has plenty of character but tight enough to take on a good polish. Displaying a great mix of the characteristic gnarly grain and a smooth polish, this will be a beautiful toki to wear.
GENTLE GIANT is bound with a kalahari cord and nacho binding - a smidgeon of colour to catch the eye! The cord can be adjusted so you can position the pendant where it suits you best.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
GENTLE GIANT is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
