Long and slender with an inner secret...

LUMINOUS - a sleek, long Tangiwai Toki pendant bound and dressed with our hand plaited cords and special bindings. Contrasting colours to highlight the beauty of the deep green Tangiwai these are carved from.

These toki are carved from our rare and beautiful Tangiwai Pounamu - a gorgeous deep green stone from Anita Bay in Fiordland. This particular piece is a very, very dark green - as mysterious as the remote region is where it is found.

Select the piece that you would like using the drop-down menu - use the cord colour as a guide.

Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, so the translation means 'tears of sorrow'.

Take a look at the video to see the shape of the pendant and the wonderful colour of the stone.

As an adornment, the Toki, or Adze, is said to bring courage and strength in times of adversity. It is a symbol of courage and strength in times of adversity and is often worn by Maori elders as a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.

Maori believe that carvings carry the spirit of those who wear them, becoming an important family Taonga (treasure) passed on to future generations of the family as an heirloom.

Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
