This little piece is a very simple drop style pendant, carved from Tangiwai Pounamu.
The idea with this piece is is to let the stone do all the talking. Tangiwai comes from a remote area in the Milford Sounds called Piopiotahi. This is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, so the translation means 'tears of sorrow'.
Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the beauty of this stone - if you hold it up to the light the mysteries of the stone's structure are revealed! You can see this in the photo we have backlit for you.
The drop shaped pendant is known as a comfort stone and is worn to soothe, heal and provide positive energy.
In New Zealand this shape is called 'roimata' and is a stylised, softer version of the toki.
